How to Overcome Financial Roadblocks?

I have had my fair share of financial cul-de-sac in the past. My first job didn’t pay much. In fact, my salary was below minimum. I had to sacrifice a lot of things to make ends meet.  Plus, I had to split my little salary for my sister’s tuition fee and help my parents pay the bills. It was tough every time I reach down my pocket, only to find out that I don’t have enough money to get me through the end of the month. It made me sick to my stomach.

It didn’t take long for me to decide to leave the corporate world and try my luck in freelancing. Thankfully, an opportunity knocked on my door and gave me the chance to have a bit of luxury. It made me happy. I finally had more than enough. But then, earning three times my usual salary became dangerous for me.

You see, I grew up in a simple family and my sisters and I didn’t always get what we wanted because we needed to be practical. So, I told myself, when I start earning my own money, I’ll buy the things that I’ve always wanted to have – and that’s exactly what I did. I bought things. I spent my money on clothes, shoes, makeup, books – impractical things that I don’t need (well, except for books). Shopping made me happy. It was so addictive. I was on a high. Until one day, I had an emergency and I didn’t have enough money in my bank account. That’s when it hit me – I’m becoming like Carrie Bradshaw, a woman with lots of shoes but no place to live!

It was scary, but I finally had my wake up call. Since then, I’ve started spending and managing my finances wisely. I still spend a lot nowadays, but my receipts no longer include Converse or Vans (Well, at least not as often as they used to). Instead, I have receipts for HMO, memorial plans, real estate, and now I’m about to get a life insurance.

Recently, I attended the SunLife Fun Day, where I got the chance to pick the brains of Entrepreneur Mark Bonifacio and SunLife Advisor JP Fabian who shared their experiences in financial management.

Here are a few keynotes to help improve your money habits:Read More »

Morisette is Made in Davao

I remember the first time I saw Morisette on national television. She was auditioning for The Voice where she sang “Love On Top” and eventually became part of Team Sarah. She was only 16 then, but she already had this really mature and powerful voice. That’s when I knew this girl would soar. Five years later, she has come full circle.

This coming September 2, the Asia’s Phoenix is bringing her “Morisette is Made” concert to Davao at the SMX Convention Center to stun her fans from all corners of Mindanao.

Concert producer Glenn Aldueza of Aldueza Entertainment Productions (AEP) says “Morissette is the next big thing in the music industry. She is preparing for her international stardom as she collaborated with Michael Bolton and Jessie J soon,”

“Morissette Is Made” is the first major solo concert of Asia’s Phoenix in Davao City. It is a homecoming of sorts for the Cebuana artist because her father Mr. Amon, is originally from Davao.

By Morissette’s special request, The Unstoppable Darren Espanto will be her special guest at the concert.

“I love Darren because he is my good friend. I thought it would be special if I shared the stage with him,” says Morissette, who will also be one of the awardees of the prestigious PeopleAsia magazine for its upcoming “Women of Style and Substance” issue.

“Morissette Is Made” is produced by AEP and sponsored by SMDC and Frontrow.

Piolo Pascual: On Keeping His Promises with Sun Life

We all keep promises – to our friends, family, special someone, and even ourselves. That’s how we keep a healthy relationship with the people within our circle. Piolo Pascual is no exception. We see him on screen as a brilliant actor with impeccable talent, but more than anything, he is first and foremost a son, a sibling, and a father. And like many of us, he too have promises to keep.

Nokia 7 plus, Nokia 1, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8110 4G Arrives in Davao

Nokia will always have a special place in my heart. Like the rest of the world, my first ever mobile phone was Nokia – a fancy 3410 with a mint green casing. I’ve also owned several other models like the 6310i, 2100, 6070, and the last one was the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic  , which I still have up to this very day. It’s barely breathing now but I couldn’t throw it away because it was the first ever phone I bought out of my own salary.

Anyway, enough nostalgia. I’m just happy to share that the new Nokia Smartphones –  Nokia 7 plus, Nokia 1, New Nokia 6 and Nokia 8110 4G – has arrived and they will all be available in Davao by mid-May. This awesome news was confirmed by HMD Global during a press launch last April 26, 2018 at Seda Hotel, Davao City.
